What are Your Top Five Rocky Mountain Bars?

Just as an aside to my last post, and inspired by a quick trip through Montana and central Idaho, I wanted to take a quick poll. What are your top five mountain-town bars (or, if you don't have a lot of experience in the Rockies, what are you top five bars, period)?

Here are mine:

1. The Lariat, Buena Vista, Colorado
2. The Moose, Dillon, Montana
3. The El Rancho, Durango, Colorado
4. The Victoria Tavern, Salida, Colorado
5. The Roosevelt, Ketchum, Idaho

The honorable mention list: The First National, Pocatello, Idaho; the Green Parrot, Buena Vista, Colorado; The Enterpise, Rico, Colorado; The Scotia Inn, Scotia, California; Timbers, Gunnison, Colorado.

Let's see your Top Five. Enjoy.

  2. Sadly, I've only been in one Rocky Mountain bar, but you have it in your honorable mentions - The Green Parrot in "Beunnie". Thanks for bringing back that Arkansas River memory.

    3. Blue Anchor, Twin Bridges, MT

  5. russell (schnitzerPHOTO) - I have to agree with you on the Sip-N-Dip taking the top spot. I played rock-paper-scissors with a mermaid there. Although, it does not serve Miller High Life, which definitely knocks its overall score.

  6. There's nothing that I know of anywhere in the country that is quite like the Sip-N-Dip experience. It could do better with its beer selection, but, in a place like that, I'm going straight for hard stuff.

  7. I can't believe that the Saddle Sore Saloon in Irwin, ID did not make this list. Sad, really..........
