So Proud to be the 23rd Best Fly Fishing Blog!

First, of course, I'd like to thank God, because that's what you're supposed to do when you win something this prestigious. Then, I'd like to thank my agent, and I will, when I get one.

After that, I'd like to thank all the little people who made this award possible. Without them (and they know who they are), this honor would not be mine to boast of. It's on their shoulders that I stand as I accept this award for ... the Twenty-third Best Fly Fishing Blog.

That's right. You're reading one of sportsmedicineschools.org's 50 Fantastic Fly Fishing Blogs. You know, sportsmedicineschools.org. The outfit that brought you the 50 Best Baseball Blogs, the 100 Greatest Sports Podcasts and the 94 Most Rabid Sportsfans Blogs (yes, I'm serious).

I have no idea why sportsmedicineschools.org compiles these lists, but I'm truly touched (and a little jealous–I took a look at some of the blogs rated higher than Eat More Brook Trout, thinking I could make a decent case for this blog being better, but I just couldn't).

Finally, I want to thank my kids... who better in bed by now. It's late.

  1. my favorite part of the list is the descriptions. I am pretty sure the Outdooress doesn't tie flies. but, i still suppose some form of congratulations are in order.

  2. When I open the list it says you are no 18 though. I don't think however that the list is in the correct order. After all my blog is at number 1, and even though I would like to think so (not really) that just cant be right.

  3. Here's a thought... I thought this really was kind of cool when I got my email and as I haven't looked at some of the blogs listed, tomorrow will be a fun day as I'm sure there's some good reading out there.
On the other hand, if I attach their little award sticker to the site and tomorrow someone cliks on it they will be linked to sportsmedicineschools.org to see the rest of the list. In the same instant the folks at sportsmedicineschools.org will get my readers IP address. They can then sell that address to advertisers. Be those advertisers legitimate or not, my reader will now be on someone's list somewhere.... After having had my original Midgeman's Fly Box site worked over by phishing probes, I think I'll thank the folks at Sports what ever for the recognition, and after looking at some of the other blogs tomorrow.... delete their email and html link code for the little award banner.
Isn't amazing that all the sites listed and recognized have fairly high traffic volume?

  4. I'm just a little baffled as well. Though I have to say that I was a little pumped at making the list until I realized that so many good blogs weren't listed and I was listed above some that are much better than mine. I guess bad publicity is better than none.

  5. You guys have a LONG way to go (except for African FF) to catch up to the torid pace in fly fish blogging excellence Ive set, with the #7 blog.

Of course, the fact that I rarely write about anything fly related shouldn't be of any concern. Nor should my total lack of original thoughts or posts since the OBN thing has sucked the creative lifeblood out of me.

I DO set quite a standard to aspire to, don't I???

  6. I think Midge Man is probably right... it's a traffic tool for the other site. And you're right, too... There are a number of blogs listed below mine that I aspire to. Nevertheless, it was a fun little diversion. And, no, I don't think I'll be putting the badge on my page, either.
